DeRiVE 2011 Data Challenge

Abstract
To stimulate research and applications on event data, DeRiVE provides an event dataset for people to work with. We invite research and applications built on the basis of this dataset to submit their work as a DeRiVE Data Challenge paper. Accepted submissions will be presented at DeRiVE 2011 where a winner will be chosen. Examples of analyses and research that could be done with the dataset include the following (but are certainly not limited to those):
Data enrichment and analysis
• linking the 3 datasets to each other or to external sources
• data cleaning
• entity extraction
• trend detection
Applications and demos
• visualisations
• browsing and searching applications
• recommender systems
Dataset
The DeRiVE event dataset is made available by the EventMedia project. It consists of over 100.000 events from three sources: the music website Last.fm, the entertainment websites upcoming.yahoo.com and eventful.com. All three are represented as RDF in the LODE schema. Next to events, they contain artists, venues and location and time information.
Some links between the instances of the three datasets are provided:

The RDF graph representation of one event is illustrated below as an example.
This schema is not fully instantiated in all parts of the dataset; actors are not explicitly modeled in the Upcoming events.
NEWS July 7, 2011: The final version of the dataset is now available and can be downloaded here.
Criteria of evaluation
The DeRiVE 2011 Data Challenge winner will be selected based on two criteria:
• scientific contribution
• societal impact, for example how much the work contributes to useful applications by providing data, services, etc.
We favour presentations that contain a demo.
